Milwaukee Art Museum considered a world icon
The September 2007 "20th Anniversary" issue of Condé Nast Traveler includes a series of pieces called the "WOMMIES-The 8 trends, concepts, and innovations of the past two decades that have changed the way we travel." At #8 is a piece entitled "We Entered 'Generation Starchitect.'"
Describing the idea of "Generation Starchitect," Condé Nast Traveler states:
If we’d told you, 20 years ago, that you’d fly around the world to see the new Zaha Hadid, or that a building would transform a dreary Spanish town into an art world epicenter, you never would have believed us (much less known who Zaha Hadid was). What a difference two decades make. We mapped out every single public structure built by the 12 architects whose visions have transformed not only whole cities but also where, and why, we travel.
As part of the story, the magazine selected one building they considered to be the "Iconic Building" of each of the 12 architects. Included in the list of architects was Santiago Calatrava and of the 35 buildings he has designed, Condé Nast Traveler selected the Milwaukee Art Museum as Calatrava's "Iconic Building."
